This past week in Washington, America's tech titans met with President Trump to talk about, well, the future of humanity … specifically, will AI, artificial intelligence, mark the end of civilization as we know it? Only slightly less grave and only slightly less depressing, there's a related, more immediate question: Will AI take our jobs?

Experts are training AI how to do their jobs

Music producer Robbie Hiser is confident there will always be a place for creatives like him even though he taught artificial intelligence some of the tricks of his trade. Hiser trained AI for Mercor, a company that works to make AI models like ChatGPT or Claude better in a wide variety of subjects from finance to poetry. The multibillion-dollar company has assembled more than 100,000 freelancers in a wide range of industries, available to teach AI what they know about their fields.

Friars turn to modern technology to repair 13th century basilica

Sergio Fusetti went as far as humanly possible after a pair of powerful earthquakes cratered part of the roof of the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. Yet, almost three decades have passed, and Fusetti has been unable to figure out where more than 80,000 fragments of the 13th century church belong. "This is impossible," he said in Italian. "Only artificial intelligence can help us here." And that's exactly what's happening. A team of art historians and software engineers has joined forces with the Franciscan friars to try to finish the restoration — this time with the help of digital wizardry and AI.
