Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the publisher and operator of Twice Daily Wire (“Twice Daily Wire,” “Wire,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and otherwise processes information in connection with the Twice Daily Wire website at wire-brief.com, including the twice-daily news brief (the “Service”).

For purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the UK GDPR, Wire is the controller of personal data processed as described here. Our privacy contact is privacy@wire-brief.com. Additional rights for EEA, UK, and Swiss residents are set out in the GDPR & International Privacy Notice.

Wire is a news-gathering and aggregation brief. It does not offer user accounts, comments, profiles, newsletters (unless we later invite a subscription), payments, or social login. We do not ask you to create an identity in order to read the brief. This Policy is written for that model. If we add a feature that materially changes how we process personal data, we will update this Policy and, where required, request additional consent.

This Policy does not apply to third-party websites linked from a story, or to publishers whose reports we index. Their practices are governed by their own policies.

We collect only what is needed to operate a public news brief, maintain security, and respond to you if you write to us.

Information you provide. If you email us (including legal, privacy, or DMCA notices, or an unsolicited tip), we receive the content of that message, your email address, and any name or contact details you include. We do not run a public comment system.

Automatic technical data. When you load the Service, our hosting environment and content-delivery network typically receive your IP address, approximate location derived from IP, browser type and version, device and operating-system information, referring URL, requested URL, date and time, and success or error codes. This is ordinary server-log data. We do not use it to build a marketing profile of you.

On-device navigation state. During a visit, the Service may keep your desk filter and search query in session storage so that returning from a story restores the same brief, as described in the Cookie Policy. If you choose Light, Dark, or Auto appearance, that choice is stored in local storage on your device. Desk filters and search queries are also carried in the page URL on your device; we do not log those queries as an identified profile.

We do not collect: account credentials; payment card numbers; government identifiers; precise geolocation from GPS; biometric data; the contents of your address book; or special-category data as a matter of course. The news stories themselves may concern public figures or events; that is third-party journalistic content, not a file we keep about you.

We obtain information from you (when you contact us); from your device and browser (technical data); from our processors (hosting and security logs); and, as to the brief itself, from publisher feeds and related public sources. We do not buy marketing lists. We do not append data-broker profiles to readers.

We use information to:

• Deliver, maintain, and secure the Service, including generating each edition and displaying stories and photographs.
• Restore desk and search state during a visit so the brief is readable as you move between pages.
• Diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and protect the Service, our rights, and other readers.
• Respond to your requests, legal notices, and copyright complaints.
• Comply with law, including lawful process, and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (providing the Service you request); legitimate interests (operating a public news brief, security, limited product improvement) balanced against your rights; consent where a future non-essential cookie or script would require it; and legal obligation. Details are in the GDPR notice.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not presently load an analytics script. Reading the brief does not require a cookie choice. Session storage may hold desk and search state for the length of a visit. Google Fonts and publisher image networks may be requested by your browser when you load a page; those third parties may set their own cookies as described in the Cookie Policy. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information only as follows:

• Processors who host, deliver, or secure the Service, acting on our instructions.
• Professional advisers (legal, accounting) under confidentiality.
• Authorities, courts, or counterparties when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, necessary to protect rights, safety, or the Service, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or similar corporate transaction (in which case this Policy will still govern unless you are notified otherwise).
• The public, if you deliberately send us material you ask us to publish (we do not currently operate a public submission board).

When your browser requests a photograph from a publisher’s content network, or a font from a font host, that third party receives the technical data involved in the request. That is a function of how the web loads third-party assets, not a sale by Wire.

Server logs are retained for a short operational period, typically no longer than is needed for security and debugging, unless a longer period is required for a legal claim or legal obligation. Email you send us is kept as long as needed to handle the request and for a reasonable period thereafter for our records. Cookie preferences remain on your device until you clear them. We do not keep a permanent reader profile.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to a public news site, including transport-layer encryption on the Service as configured by our hosting provider. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and we are not responsible for the security of third-party sites you visit from a story link.

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 where a higher age of digital consent applies). If you believe we have collected such information, contact privacy@wire-brief.com and we will delete it as required by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and applicable law.

Residents of California and of other states with consumer privacy statutes (including, as applicable, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, and similar laws) may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of certain personal information, and to opt out of sale, sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising, and certain profiling. Wire does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.

To exercise a right, email privacy@wire-brief.com with “Privacy Request” in the subject line and enough detail for us to locate information we may hold (typically, that is limited to an email you sent us and technical logs). We will verify the request by reasonably matching information you provide with information we already hold. You may use an authorized agent as permitted by law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

If your browser sends a legally recognized opt-out preference signal, such as the Global Privacy Control, we will treat it as a request to opt out of sale and sharing to the extent such a request is meaningful given that we do not sell or share in those ways. We do not currently respond to the older “Do Not Track” header as a separate protocol, because there is no consistent industry standard for it; the Cookie Policy describes the controls we do honor.

Notice at collection (California). We collect identifiers (email, if you send it; IP address) and internet or electronic-network activity (logs, preference storage) for the business purposes listed above. We collect this information from you and from your device. We retain it as described in “Retention.” We do not sell it or share it for cross-context advertising. We do not collect sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics.

Wire is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from the EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or another region, your information will be processed in the United States, which may not provide the same statutory protections as your home country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards, which may include Standard Contractual Clauses, for transfers to processors. See the GDPR notice.

Depending on your location, you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, and withdrawal of consent, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We may update this Policy. The “Last updated” date will change. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice on the Service as appropriate. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acknowledgment of the updated Policy, except where applicable law requires consent.
