Cookie Policy
A record of how this brief uses cookies, local storage, and third-party requests for fonts and photographs. Reading the brief does not require a cookie choice.
Last updated August 27, 2026. These documents are written for Twice Daily Wire as an independent online news brief at wire-brief.com, not as a generic software product or a full-service newsroom.
01.What this Policy covers
This Cookie Policy explains how the publisher and operator of Twice Daily Wire (“Twice Daily Wire,” “Wire”) uses cookies, local storage, pixels, and similar technologies on the Service. It should be read with the Privacy Policy and the GDPR & International Privacy Notice.
A cookie is a small file stored on your device. Local storage and session storage are similar on-device records. Some technologies are set by us (“first-party”); others may be set by a third party whose resource your browser requests (“third-party”).
02.How Wire actually uses these technologies
Wire is a news brief without accounts or advertising. We do not run a third-party ad network, we do not drop advertising cookies, and we do not presently load an analytics script. Because we do not set optional cookies, the Service does not show a cookie banner and does not ask you to click a consent choice in order to read the brief.
Your desk filter and search query may appear in the URL (for example, a selected desk). During a visit, the Service may keep that navigation state in session storage so that returning from a story page restores the same brief. If you choose Light, Dark, or Auto appearance, that choice is stored in local storage on your device so the brief can open in the same mode next time. That is page state, not tracking.
03.Categories
- Strictly necessary. Required to operate the Service and keep it secure. These do not require consent under EU/UK ePrivacy rules, though we still tell you about them.
- Analytics. Not used. We do not presently load a measurement script. If that changes, we will update this Policy and request consent before loading it.
- Advertising. Not used on Wire.
- Functional / third-party content. Loading Google Fonts or a photograph from a publisher’s content network causes your browser to call that third party. Those parties may process technical data and, in some cases, set cookies under their own policies. We treat those loads as part of delivering the page you requested; you can block third-party cookies in your browser, which may affect fonts or images.
04.Technologies we set or rely on
| Name | Type | Duration | Purpose | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| wire-home-search | First-party session storage | Until you close the tab | Restores the desk filter and search query when you return from a story to the brief. Not used to identify you. | Strictly necessary |
| wire-theme | First-party local storage | Until you clear site data | Remembers Light, Dark, or Auto appearance. Set only when you use the appearance control. Not used to identify you. | Strictly necessary |
| Hosting / CDN logs | Server-side | Short operational period | Delivers the page, resists abuse, and diagnoses errors. Not a browser cookie. | Strictly necessary |
| Google Fonts | Third-party request to Google | Per Google’s policies | Serves the typefaces used in the masthead and body. Google may process IP address and technical data. | Functional / third-party |
| Publisher image hosts | Third-party request | Per the publisher or CDN | Displays photographs and thumbnails on major stories. The host may see the request. | Functional / third-party |
If we add a non-essential cookie, pixel, or analytics script, we will update this Policy and request consent before loading it. We will not add advertising cookies without a further disclosure.
05.Legal basis
Strictly necessary technologies are used on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, and to take steps at your request to provide the page. We do not presently rely on cookie consent because we do not set optional cookies. If that changes, consent will be requested before any non-essential script loads, and you may withdraw it by writing to privacy@wire-brief.com. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
06.How you can control cookies
- Clear this site’s cookies, local storage, and session storage in your browser settings. That will reset on-device navigation state for this domain.
- Use browser controls to block third-party cookies or to send a Global Privacy Control signal. We honor GPC as a do-not-sell / do-not-share request as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Use private browsing, which typically drops session data when the window closes.
Blocking third-party content may hide photographs or substitute system fonts. It does not prevent you from reading the text of the brief.
07.Changes and contact
We may update this Policy when our practices change. Questions: privacy@wire-brief.com.
