Rubio urges Venezuela to release remaining political prisoners

The US has urged Venezuela to release the remaining political prisoners being held in the South American country.

More than 1,000 political prisoners have been freed since US forces seized Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro in a military raid on Caracas on 3 January and took him to New York, where he faces trial on drug-trafficking and torture charges.

But Venezuelan prisoners' rights group Foro Penal says 322 people remain in detention.

Soccer player dies following on-field collision in Spain

A Spanish soccer player's death is now under investigation as possible involuntary manslaughter, after he suffered a fatal injury in an on-field collision during a match. The country's National Police said Tuesday that proceedings were opened and prosecutors will also be involved. Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel died after he suffered cardiac arrest from the on-field collision in a Spanish second-division match, his club said. He was 30 years old.
