Truck stops nationwide were warned to “proceed with caution” Tuesday by a major industry group after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to promote the use of “red dye” diesel fuel. Red dye diesel is exempt from federal excise taxes because it is intended for farm equipment and other off-road uses. The order, signed before farmers in Nebraska on Monday night, aims to bring down fuel prices by “temporarily” allowing highway use of red dye diesel fuel, according to a White House statement .

Republican Rep. John James on Tuesday sought to put some daylight between himself and President Donald Trump as he debated his opponent in the Michigan governor’s race. Democratic nominee Jocelyn Benson, Michigan’s secretary of state, repeatedly tried to tie James to Trump during the hourlong showdown, saying he had failed to stand up to Trump and wouldn’t do so as governor, either. James, who was boosted by Trump’s endorsement in his GOP primary campaign, pointed to the Iran war and tariff policy as issues over which he has disagreements with Trump.

An execution date for former Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people in a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, has been set for Dec. 3, 2026, and will take place at the same post where he carried out his attack, according to an email sent to the families of victims. Hasan is set to die by firing squad in what will be the first military execution since 1961. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said late Monday that the plan to use an Army firing squad was recommended by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and approved by President Trump.

A man convicted of manslaughter had his 10-year prison sentence tossed by an appellate court last week over the use of an AI-generated video depicting his slain victim during the sentencing hearing. The three-judge panel in the Arizona Court of Appeals upheld Gabriel Paul Horcasitas' conviction for a November 2021 road rage incident in which he shot and killed Christopher Pelkey.
