Katie Bailey tapped as new White House legislative director, sources say

The White House has a new chief liaison to Congress as midterms approach and control of the legislative branch is in the balance.

President Trump offered Katie Bailey the position of director of the Office of Legislative Affairs on Friday, and she accepted, according to multiple sources.

Bailey will replace James Braid, who stepped down last month, as announced by Vice President JD Vance .

Gunman charged with killing officer, wounding another in West Philly

The man accused of shooting two police officers, killing one and injuring another, early Saturday morning in West Philadelphia is identified as 35-year-old Eric Lewis, according to District Attorney Larry Krasner. Lewis faces a slew of charges in the shooting death of 40-year-old officer Shane Seiber. Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel identified the fallen officer as a 10-year veteran of the force with two children. His wife and other relatives were by his side at the hospital, he said.

Vehicle driven by ICE agents in Texas hits and injures man, sheriff says

A vehicle driven by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents hit and injured a man in the greater Houston area on Saturday, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said. "The incident appears to have occurred while ICE authorities were conducting an enforcement action in the area," the sheriff's office said in a statement. During a press conference, Major McConnell of the Harris County Sheriff's special investigation bureau said the sheriff's office was called to the scene around 7:20 a.m.

House candidate who reported rape on campaign trail details why she came forward

In the days since U.S. House candidate Bernadette Greene-Placentia publicly came forward alleging she was raped over the summer while repairing a campaign sign, she says women have been reaching out to her to share their own stories. Greene-Placentia, a Democrat, is facing freshman Republican Rep. Abe Hamadeh on the ballot in November in Arizona's 8th District, located in the Phoenix suburbs. The district is rated as solidly Republican by Cook Political Report.
