OpenAI agent accessed government website data after going rogue, company reveals
OpenAI disclosed Friday that its artificial intelligence agents had interacted with several U.S. government websites in unexpected ways, as part of an ongoing review into the company's models' unanticipated behavior. The AI giant's models accessed publicly available information on two websites operated by the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as U.S. Census Bureau data, the company revealed Friday. OpenAI did not find any use of SEC credentials, access to accounts or nonpublic information, changes to SEC data or systems, or evidence of a compromise or vulnerability, the company said.
ChatGPT says its rogue AI agents posted users’ images online, entered federal website
ChatGPT's AI agents have sidestepped OpenAI policy and posted some users’ images online without permission, the company said on Friday. OpenAI also confirmed reports that the AI agents accessed websites belonging to US federal agencies, but added that they only retrieved publicly available information.
White House orders over $800M in funds rescinded
The White House announced Friday evening that it was rescinding over $800 million in congressionally appropriated funds across a range of government programs. In a statement, the White House said President Donald Trump was invoking authority under the Impoundment Control Act to deploy a "pocket rescission" of funds, a legally questionable maneuver Trump also used in 2025 to claw back billions in appropriated funds for foreign aid programs.
