Cornell student’s 2024 statement to police reveals new details about the night of her alleged rape

The Cornell University student who alleged in a lawsuit that she was gang-raped and plied with drugs at a fraternity house in 2024 described the hourslong incident to police in a sworn statement, according to the document, which was obtained by NBC News.

Jane Doe told police in part that she had agreed to an initial sexual encounter with two of the men, described being encouraged to take drugs and said she did not remember some parts of the night.

4 people hospitalized after helicopter crashes near Catalina Island

Rescue crews rushed to the Catalina Island coastline after a medical helicopter crashed in the ocean on Wednesday night. The Los Angeles County Fire Department said it dispatched helicopters and divers at around 7:50 p.m., shortly after receiving the initial reports of the crash. Five people were aboard the flight, according to LA County Fire. The LA County Sheriff's Department said two people were taken to a hospital on Catalina Island, while two other people were taken to the Ronald Reagan Medical Center at UCLA.

Christa Pike appeared to still be breathing after attempted execution, witnesses say

Witnesses to the execution of Christa Pike -- the only woman on Tennessee's death row -- said late Wednesday that authorities appeared to administer two rounds of lethal pentobarbitol but that the convicted murderer appeared to still be alive an hour later when witnesses were escorted out of the chamber. "I've witnessed five executions in Tennessee. Nothing about today was normal, typical -- at all," said reporter Tori Gessner with ABC Nashville affiliate WKRN, who was one of several journalists who witnessed the proceedings.

'I felt like bait," Jane Doe said at 2025 Cornell University hearing

During a 2025 hearing at Cornell University, an unidentified female former student who alleges she was gang raped at a fraternity house in 2024 described her harrowing night at the house surrounded by multiple men: "I felt like bait. I felt like lions around me. It just was a totally debilitating place to be in." Her description is included in a heavily-redacted 99-page report, obtained by ABC News, that was prepared by the university last year as it investigated what happened.

Senate confirms Keith Sonderling as labor secretary

Washington — The Senate confirmed Keith Sonderling to lead the Department of Labor on Wednesday, officially installing the nominee who has been leading in an acting capacity since Lori Chavez-DeRemer's exit in April. Sonderling served in several roles at the Department of Labor and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission during President Trump's first administration. He previously practiced employment and labor law at a Florida law firm.
