On the run for 20 years, Ugandan warlord Kony still 'active' within the Lord's Resistance Army

In recent months, the eastern Central African Republic has been hit by several attacks attributed to the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a Ugandan militia infamous for its massacres and mass abductions of children in the 1990s and 2000s. The group's leader, Joseph Kony, wanted by the International Criminal Court for more than 20 years, remains at large. FRANCE 24 spoke to Leonie von Braun, the ICC’s lead investigator on the Kony case, about the group's resurgence.

David Rivera sentenced to 10 years in Venezuela lobbying case

Former U.S. Rep. David Rivera was sentenced Friday to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a secret $50 million lobbying campaign on behalf of the Venezuelan government during the first Trump administration. Rivera, a former Florida congressman and longtime friend of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio , was sentenced in federal court in Downtown Miami after a jury convicted him in May on all counts following a seven-week trial. Rivera had remained in federal custody without bond since the jury returned the guilty verdict on May 1. His sentencing was initially scheduled for July 20 before being moved to Oct. 2.
