Georgia governor candidates spar over the economy and Trump in lone debate

Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms and Republican Rick Jackson clashed Tuesday night during their only scheduled debate of this fall’s race for governor in Georgia, taking aim at each other on economic issues, data centers and President Donald Trump.

Public polls show Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta and a former Biden administration official, and Jackson, a billionaire healthcare executive, locked in a close race four weeks out from Election Day, with early voting kicking off next week.

Washington state man charged with helping Canadian mass shooter plan for attack

A Washington state man allegedly "enabled" and "aided" a school shooter in Canada to carry out a mass shooting by agreeing to livestream the attack to "maximize" its exposure, discussing tactical plans and even sending the shooter money to purchase parts of an explosive device, according to federal prosectors in Seattle. Authorities said Jesse van Rootselaar killed two people at her British Columbia home on Feb. 10, 2026, and then five students between the ages of 12 and 13 and an educational assistant at Tumbler Ridge School, also using an improvised explosive device to damage the school.

It was designed to be a striking display of support for Israel during a week of remembrance of the deadly Hamas attack on Oct. 7, 2023. But the symbolic gesture outside a church in McKinney, Texas, has instead made it a target of threats and vandalism. Len McLaughlin, senior pastor of Heritage Church, had 1,200 small Israeli flags placed around the property in memory of the approximately 1,200 victims of the deadly attack on Israel by the militant group Hamas that took place three years ago Wednesday.
