Hawaii under another hurricane watch as new storm closes in
Nolo strengthened into a hurricane on Thursday over the Pacific Ocean as it moves toward Hawaii, threatening to dump up to 3 feet of rain on the Big Island this week, the National Hurricane Center said.
Nolo formed Wednesday and became a hurricane Thursday night. Nolo was expected to bring heavy rainfall to the Big Island for the next several days, forecasters said. They also warned that Nolo could become a major hurricane by the weekend, meaning a Category 3 or higher.
