More information is coming to light about what the people at the center of the Cornell University alleged rape case said in the days and weeks after the incident. CBS News New York obtained a Title IX record from a source that includes Jane Doe's account, interviews with six of the seven men named in the lawsuit, and 20 witnesses. According to the record, a student who had been at the Chi Phi house the night of the alleged assault in 2024 says she got a call the next day from one of the accused men. She said the call took place right before an event at her sorority.
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s harsh criticisms may still be ringing in the ears of Supreme Court justices when they return to the bench for a new nine-month term next week. In the final months of its previous term and over its summer break, the conservative-majority court, which includes three Trump appointees, ruled against Trump on some of the issues he holds most dear. The justices blocked his sweeping tariffs, ended his plan to curb birthright citizenship, prevented him from firing a member of the Federal Reserve and blocked his plan to exert control over mail-in ballots ahead of this fall’s election.
Under normal circumstances, Cornell University is a beautiful place to study at this time of year. Autumn leaves bring pops of colour to its stately buildings, which are set against the backdrop of the rolling hills of upstate New York. But students and faculty members say the investigation into an alleged gang rape that took place on these grounds two years ago has cast a "dark cloud" over the campus - stirring anger, concern over fraternity culture, and a backlash against the university's handling of the situation.

The fresh data is set to arrive weeks after the Federal Reserve imposed its first interest rate hike in three years. The move aims to dial back price increases, but it risks an eventual slowdown in hiring as borrowing costs weigh on businesses. The economy has shown signs of strain in recent months, including a bond selloff that threatens to raise consumer borrowing costs and a resurgence in oil and gasoline prices.
