WHO officials say unclear how Russia plague lab worker died

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday it does not currently have enough information from Russian authorities to conduct a full risk assessment after the death of a plague laboratory worker in Siberia.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, said during a press conference that following media reports of the worker's death, the WHO asked the Russian Federation on Saturday for more information, in accordance with the International Health Regulations (IHR).

Yemen's Houthis said Thursday that they struck the Saudi capital's main international airport with a ballistic missile, in another attack on the kingdom claimed by the Iran-backed group. The claim came a day after the anti-government fighters launched a series of attacks in Saudi Arabia that killed three people, and after the Riyadh-backed Yemeni government announced a major counter-offensive against the Houthis. The Houthis, who control most of the country's northwest, are battling against the Yemeni government for territory after the civil war reignited in July.

France's school protests: what lies behind the anger

Since late September students across France have been holding protests against underfunding in education, and have been blocking access to many high schools. The movement has turned violent in places – hundreds of students, teachers and police officers have been injured. Thousands of people – including an unknown number of outside troublemakers – have been arrested. The protesters are complaining about staff shortages and dilapidated facilities in the country's lycées, schools which are attended by 15-18-year-olds.

After having faced fierce backlash, President Donald Trump on Wednesday sought to clean up incendiary comments he made earlier this week, when he said Iran could “take out” Los Angeles or San Diego. Trump’s original remarks , made at a campaign rally in Nebraska, seemed to refer to what would happen if Iran had a nuclear weapon. “They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego,” Trump said Monday to cheers from the crowd.
