Iran's Houthi allies step up deadly attacks on Saudi Arabia

Saudi national carrier Saudia Airlines announced the death of aircraft captain Hamoud bin Ali Al-Kalthami Friday following a strike on the King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh thye previous day.

Saudi authorities have not said who carried out the Thursday attack on the airport, which killed two other civilians in addition to Al-Kalthami, but the Iran-backed Houthis claimed they targeted the airport on the same day, as they have previously this week.

France promises 3,000 extra teachers in first step to calm student protests

The French government has made its first sign of giving ground to teenage protesters, with a promise of 3,000 extra supply teachers in the coming days. Education minister Edouard Geffray made the offer in a television interview on Thursday evening, at the end of another day of sometimes violent demonstrations by high-school students. The government says 6,877 people have been arrested, 86% of whom are under the age of 18, since protests began centred around demands for more resources in secondary education.

Kushner and Witkoff to discuss ‘new’ peace plan with Ukrainian delegation, sources say

Ukrainian negotiators heading to the U.S. for a new round of talks to end the war with Russia will discuss a comprehensive new plan to help break the ongoing impasse in the conflict , a senior administration official told NBC News. The talks starting Friday and led by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are the latest attempt to negotiate a settlement amid intensifying deadly aerial attacks on both sides of the border. The discussions will center on “a new, unified proposal that is focused on all aspects of the conflict to try to end the war,” the senior administration official said Thursday evening.

8 hospitalized after turbulence forces flight to divert to MIA, officials say

Eight people were rushed to a Miami hospital early Friday morning after a flight to New York City was forced to divert to Miami International Airport due to severe turbulence, according to officials. According to officials at Miami International Airport, Avianca Flight 042 was headed from Medellín, Colombia , to New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport when the severe turbulence was reported. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told CBS News Miami that "multiple patients" were injured, and the flight landed safely at MIA around 3:30 a.m. Friday.
