South Korea’s military says North Korea fired projectile toward its eastern waters

SEOUL, South Korea -- South Korea’s military says North Korea has fired at least one projectile toward its eastern waters. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff on Saturday did not immediately say whether the weapon was a ballistic missile or another type of system. The test came amid heightened tensions between the countries following land mine blasts that injured three South Korean soldiers last month. South Korea and the U.S.-led U.N. Command have said the blasts were caused by North Korean mines.

French media respond to M. Le Pen’s ‘Kevlar suit’ comments against investigative outlet

The editorial committees of 39 French media outlets, including FRANCE 24 and RFI, on Friday released a joint statement condemning National Rally (RN) party leader and presidential candidate Marine Le Pen’s recent comments targeting investigative outlet Médiapart as “violent attempts at intimidation” against press freedom in France, qualifying them as “particularly worrying for the right to information" that citizens of a democracy "are entitled to expect”.

Suspect in FlyDubai incident was previously identified as security risk: Officials

The co-pilot of the FlyDubai plane who allegedly attacked the plane's captain and attempted to crash a flight bound for Israel on Wednesday is an Omani national who was previously suspended from flying by Oman Air after being identified as a security risk, according to senior intelligence and law enforcement officials. Sources told ABC News that the suspect, while working as a co-pilot trainee for Oman Air in 2024, was found to be in possession of extremist materials. The suspect was allowed to continue working for the airline in an administrative role, the sources said.
